FRANNY AND ZOOEY

I wish to hop into the book and be in the same bathroom with Zooey as he reads the letter in the bath, smokes and shaves while talking to his mother. Finally today, I feel used to this weird desert land with 20, 000 people on it. It's all worth it climbing 12 flights of stairs to our room where I can play Simon and Garfunkel as loud as I want since Vivienne went home. Does anyone know where to buy a ukulele?!?!?!!

Franny:
'I'm not afraid to compete. It's just the opposite. Don't you see that? I'm afraid I will compete - that's what scares me. That's why I quit the Theatre Department. Just because I'm so horribly conditioned to accept everybody else's values, and just because I like applause and people to rave about me, doesn't make it right. I'm ashamed of it. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody. I'm sick of myself and everybody else that wants to make some kind of splash.'

Zooey:
But what was undiminishable, and, as already so flatly suggested, a kind of joy forever, was an authentic esprit superimposed on his entire face - especially at the eyes, where it was often as arresting as a Harlequin mask, and, on occasion, much more confounding.

Maybe if John were alive, Paul wouldn't sing Yesterday at the grammy's with jay-z or whoever it was rapping in the background, with weird actions. I mean he just wouldn't. They might get together to write some songs about growing old. Ben (Zuddhist) told me in the cab 2 months ago that he once watched Bob Dylan, but he was so old he couldn't really move and his voice had changed. He's having a new cd! Not a new...record. I wonder what he's doing this very moment. Isn't it strange.

I love my astronomy elective!!!!!! It's the most wondrous thing. I went for the first lecture today, with 500 plus students in the electrical engineering block, and the lecturer is a cranky man from hong kong who said (and says everything with a hong kong accent), 'if you have nothing to do at night you can go and look at the stars' and 'later my colleague will go more in...details. what i teach now is bullshit' and 'skip lah' and 'can or cannot' and 'come on' (to the computer). Today it was briefly about the big bang, how stars were formed, how our solar system was formed, eclipses and constellations. (at 9pm tonight jupiter and neptune were visible from singapore, and he will teach us to read the sky) There will be many more details soon. It was magical and mindblowing. The year has changed.

TO INFINITY AND BEYOND
