First heard about this when desiree showed me a book with the book crossing label on it, that she found at starbucks which her coworkers were nonchalant about (as it apparently happens often), but it was her first encounter, so to speak. It's a site where you register any book you have, and then leave it anywhere in the world or pass it to anyone, and everyone who has had contact with it can go post a journal entry on it at the site. The site's motto is something like good karma: priceless and that the satisfaction of releasing a book into the wild is way greater that seeing a bookshelf of books.

This is fascinating. There are other sites like this too, like a site where disposable cameras are released into the wild and everyone who finds it will take one picture with it and maybe log onto the site and write a journal entry and pass it on till the last person mails it back to the owner of the disposable camera. And another site called wheresgeorge where they track US dollar bills. You can find info on all this at bookcrossing.com under 'about bookcrossing'.
